How To Be A Guest At Your Own Party

 

You know what sucks, is when you have a party that everyone loves, EXCEPT YOU!

 

Don't be busy at your party. As a rule of thumb, the most you should be doing is offering to refill people's drinks... and then refill your own girl!

 

Here is "How to be a guest at your own party!"

1. HELL WEEK

 

You heard me right, to be able to play hard, you need to work hard, but preferably in advance. One of the biggest rules when I was a party planner was to have the entire event packed up and ready to go A FULL WEEK IN ADVANCE, if not sooner! However, since you're not hauling linens and decor across town, here is your timeline:

 

2 weeks in advance - Everything Should Be Ordered.

 

1 week in advance - Take out and assemble any decorations that need it.

 

3 days before the event - Decorations should be set along with serving dishes

 

2 days before the event - Buy your menu items and bake the cake

 

1 day before the event - Prep as much food as you can and decorate the cake

This means your charcuterie board is assembled and in the fridge. Pigs In A Blanket are wrapped and in the fridge, ready to pop in the oven the next day. As much as you can get done, get it done!

 

Event Day -

3 hours prior to event - begin getting ready (this really depends on how long it takes

you to get ready, I'm giving you an hour)

 

2 hours prior to event - start putting things in the oven. Once things are cooked

through, you can drop the temp to 250 F and keep things warm until about 20 minuets

before the party starts. At this time you should also be putting out dishes that don't

need to served cold.

 

45 mins prior to event - Pour yourself a drink and go touch up your hair and makeup.

You may still have some things in the oven, but everything else should be set now.

 

15 mins prior to event - Everything should be set and ready on the table, if you have

oven safe dishes, you may keep some hot items in the oven until the first guest shows if

you'd like, but now is the time to turn on the music, set the lights and have a snack since

you will most likely be busy charming your guests the rest of the night.

2. BUY THE FUN THROW AWAY PLATES

I know it seems like a good way to save money sometimes and it seems fancier, but you do not need your night ruined by a sink full of dishes at the end of the night. Trust me, without realizing, you will already have your fair share of dishes to do.

 

Rev things up with festive plates, cups and possibly silverware (not to be used if you are having meat that needs to be cut).

3. HAVE BACKUPS OF THESE 2 THINGS

 

Love charcuterie boards? Me too, have a backup in your fridge ready to replace so you don't have to worry about pouring olives into a little bowl or fanning out more cheese. This also goes for batch drinks. Everything else like chips, dip, and cookies should already be out in multiples anyways so you can just take bowls away if you'd like.

4. GIVE YOURSELF 45 MINUTES TO GET IN THE PARTY MINDSET

 

Your hot dishes are keeping warm in the oven that's set to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, your makeup is perfect and your party dress is on. Now pour yourself a drink and let yourself forget about what needs to be done; you have done it and you have the checklist to prove it.

 

Turn on some exciting music to make waiting for your guests less awkward and have a snack, because you're probably going to be busy chatting up your guests for the rest of the night and chances are you haven't eaten or sat down for that last few hours!
